At the castle-area you can find the castle-inn. In the last century formely the house of the sheperds from witzenhausen.
After the second big fire of Witzenhausen the "Friedrich zu Hessen" orderd that the basment and the first floor of the house of the sheperds has to be build with stone.
Also in that time low costs were very important for the city. They had to save money everywhere. But after long discussions the city followed the wish of "Friedrich zu Hessen" but the city had to pay.
Nobody thougt the work of the sheperds would be a full time job. So they had to do a second job.
The whole day the had to look for the sheps (everybody thougt the shepards would sleep in this time also they were not allowed to do). That´s why they also had to do the work of the nightwatcher. The shepards could only sleep when the sun was going down till they had to do theier job as nightwatcher. In the summer they almost got no sleep!
In the 19th. century the city build an arest-room in the house of the shepards because the old tower-dungeon got to old and inhuman and there was no money for a new prison.
Today we have 3 modern but simple guest-rooms in this house. All rooms with TV, hot and cold water, one shower and one toilet on the floor.
This catle-in is for hiker, assembler etc., who just need a cheap room. Here they can find clean and cheap quarters with the standard of a normal youth-hostel. We can not garanty that it´s absolute quite in this house. The guests oh the castle-in are not allowed to use the swimming-bath or the sauna.
